Joanna Nikas is a New York Times writer and editor.
Nikas is the editor of the Surfacing series about rich and varied communities. She is also an editor in the Styles section, where she primarily has focused on stories about artists like Cardi B, Erykah Badu and also has worked on fashion week. Nikas also worked with Bill Cunningham, the pioneer of street style, and edited his popular “On the Street” videos. Before The New York Times, she got her masters degree at the Columbia Journalism School, where she made a documentary about an all-girls robotics team in the Bronx, which was shown on PBS channel Thirteen. She grew up in Athens, Greece, but her family is from Kalamata, (where the olives are from.) In her free time she likes to swim and watch basketball and soccer.
