Emmy Award-winning writer, creator and actor Lena Waithe has proven herself a talent to be reckoned with, who only continues to grow her body of work with diversity and charisma. She makes her film screenwriting debut with “Queen & Slim,” directed by Melina Matsoukas. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith and Universal will be releasing the film nationwide on November 27th. Waithe first made headlines as Denise in Netflix’s critically acclaimed series “Master of None” for which she received the Emmy Award in outstanding writing for a comedy series and NAACP Image Award nomination for the “Thanksgiving” episode she co-wrote. Currently, she serves as creator and executive producer of Showtime’s “The Chi,” which was greenlit for a third season and BET’s “Boomerang,” which will return for a second season.
Her upcoming producing projects under the Hillman Grad banner include Radha Blank’s “The 40-Year-Old Version,” “Twenties” which she also created and wrote for BET, Showtime’s “How to Make Love to a Black Woman,” Amazon’s “Them: Covenant” and HBO’s untitled Kid Fury project. Previously, Waithe’s producing credits include “Step Sisters” and Dear White People.” She will next appear on the small screen in HBO’s critically acclaimed “Westworld” which will return in 2020 for its third season.
